Porsche Taycan
The 2026 Porsche Taycan comes in multiple all-wheel drive flavors: 4, 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, Turbo GT, Turbo GT with Weissach Package, 4 Black Edition, and 4S Black Edition. Rear-wheel drive is available in the Base trim and a Black Edition.
Porsche equips the all-wheel drive Taycan models with two electric motors, one powering the front axle and one powering the rear axle. Unlike most manufacturers using AC induction motors, Porsche has opted for liquid cooled permanently excited synchronous motors which are smaller, lighter, and more efficient than the competition. The front wheels are driven by a compact planetary gearset while the rear wheels benefit from a 2-speed transmission that accomplishes a low gear for acceleration and a tall gear for reaching higher speeds. The rear-wheel drive Base and Black Edition are driven by a single electric motor in the rear.
Power on the Taycan is impressive beginning at 402 horsepower for the rear-wheel drive Base model and all-wheel drive 4 model to a staggering 1019 horsepower for the Turbo GT using the launch-control feature. Using the launch-control feature, the Turbo GT has documented a 0-60mph time of 1.9 seconds. In normal driving, the Turbo GT utilizes substantial 777 horsepower.
At this point, it is worth noting something interesting about the Taycan nomenclature. A Taycan Turbo isn't really turbocharged. At Porsche, the Turbo badge now represents more than a physical feature. It is the embodiment of high-performance, and the Turbo name now brands models in the Porsche lineup that are representative of this spirit. The Taycan is deserving of this recognition.
The Taycan is available with the 89 kWh Performance Battery standard for lower trims and the 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus standard for higher ones. The Performance Battery can be charged on a DC connection up to 270 kW, and the Performance Battery Plus can utilize a DC connection up to 320 kW. For the Performance Battery Plus, Porsche says that the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes under ideal conditions.
A steering wheel-mounted drive mode dial gives Porsche Taycan drivers full control of one of four driving modes: Range, Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus. The Porsche Taycan comes nicely equipped with standard features like a curved 16.8-inch screen displaying critical data and drive mode, a 10.9-inch infotainment system, and an 8.4-inch display used to control the dual zone air conditioning system. The Taycan also boasts Matrix LED headlights, LED daytime lights, cornering lights, cruise control, 19-inch or larger alloy wheels depending on trim, heated power front seats, satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth.
Taycan options include front ventilated seats, front massage seats, rear axle steering, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, panoramic roof, night vision assist, Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System, surround view with active parking support, passenger display, advanced 4-zone climate control, head-up display, and adaptive cruise control.
All Trims come well equipped with standard safety features though there are differences in the track-focused Turbo GT with Weissach Package. For example, each trim comes standard with 10 airbags except the Weissach Package which doesn't include rear side-impact ones due to the replacement of rear seats with lightweight carbon casing with storage. Additional standard safety features include Warn and Brake assist to intervene if imminent front collision risk is detected, lane keep assist, and blind spot warning. The optional Porsche InnoDrive system allows the driver to adjust settings for Speed Limits, Route, and Lane Keeping.
